HEB will be opening a small version of their usually huge stores in downtown, Culturemap reports. Although HEB usually builds stores that are about 60,000 square feet, this one will be 12,000 square feet.
City leaders had requested that HEB build a smaller version of their store in the heart of downtown to serve the influx of residents that are expected.
HEB's move follows a national trend of grocery chains focusing on offerings that lure in urban shoppers, such as natural food options and pre-made dishes.
The store will be located at the intersection of East Cesar Chavez Boulevard and South Flores Street and is set to open in the fall.
