San Antonio Rent Is Affordable For Every Generation

If you have searched for an apartment in the past several years you know that rent is on the rise and not just in Central Texas but nationwide.

Today, a whopping 35% of American households are renters and about half of those renters are cost burdened and spending more than 30% of their income on housing. Since renting is no longer just for the younger generation, Abodo recently surveyed renters to better understand which generation is the most cost burdened.

Almost two-third of Millennials rent and 46% of them are cost burdened paying a median gross rent of $980 per month.  Although a lower percentage of boomers rent, almost half of them are cost burdened paying a median rent of $890 per month. Over 44% of Generation X  renters are cost burdened because of their expensive taste in apartments and paying $1,050 per month.

Lucky for San Antonio renters, most cities in Texas seem to fall below the national figures. Regardless of your generation, it is important that you have an expert on your side. Our agents at Apartments Now can help you find the perfect place to call home. Call us today at (210) 558-7377.

San Antonio Renters Are On The Move

A big perk of renting an apartment is flexibility and mobility.  More affordable homes, a better job, and lifestyle changes are all reasons that warrant a move out of the city or across state lines, according to many apartment dwellers.

According to a recent survey by Apartment List, 55% of San Antonio renters revealed that they do plan on moving to a different city. The recent survey showed that renters would prefer to move to Houston if they were staying in Texas, or Colorado Springs if they were crossing state lines. For now San Antonians are satisfied with the rent rate and economic conditions in San Antonio and were not feeling the immediate urge to pack it all up and leave the city.

Our licensed apartment locators are familiar with the city’s apartment rental inventory and can help save you time and money in your search. Give Apartments Now a call (210) 802-1112 and let us help you find the perfect apartment to call home!

Renters Are Ready To Buy A Home

As a renter, a single rental fee covers your housing costs. For many non-homeowners, the time has come to switch hats from renter to homeowner.

A new TransUnion market analysis revealed that 55% of people who actively shopped for a home mortgage from January to March 2017 were primarily renters. This number is up from 50% in 2016 and 45% in 2015. Experts agree that the millennial generation has shown more of an interest in homeownership, which reflects in the shifting upward numbers.

Rent In San Antonio Is On The Climb

San Antonio has always been known as a big city with affordable rent prices. To help you better understand the current rental trends and how it affects your pocketbook, we broke down the mid year analysis by Abodo to what matters most for you.

No Texas cities made the list of greatest average rent growth in the first half of 2017, but San Antonio did record an increase for the past six months. With rent on the rise in over half of the nation’s states, cities like the Alamo City are not alone in experiencing a sustained increase in rent on a month-to-month basis.

A one bedroom apartment in January 2017 rented on average for $819 and for a little more in July at $858. Two bedroom apartment rents also increased at an average rate of 0.77% every month from January to July.  As development attempts to keep up with the rising demand of the “Fastest Growing Regions” it is highly unlikely that rent will significantly decrease anytime soon.

Only time will tell if rental rates will continue to climb through the rest of 2017. It is no better time than now to work with a housing expert, like Apartments Now, in your rental search. Give us a call today (210) 802-1112.

3 Warning Signs You Are Not Ready To Buy A House

It might feel like all the cool kids are doing it but like your mama said just because everyone is doing it doesn’t mean you should - or should you? To make sure you don’t jump the gun before you are ready, here are 3 warning signs to look out for before taking the leap into homeownership.

Ask yourself these four questions to reveal whether you are ready to buy a house or not.

1. Are you committed to sticking around?
Unless you are certain that you want to stay in one spot for the next five years then you might not be ready to buy. Selling a house that you lived in less than five years will likely result in a loss of money. If your job is in limbo or you are considering moving, it is a wise decision to hold off on making the leap into home ownership right now.

2. Have you considered all your out of pocket expenses?
Your first hurdle is saving for the large down payment, but you are going to need more than that. As a potential home buyer you must have additional money saved for closing cost, emergency repairs, moving costs, and to furnish and decorate the new house.

3. Do you know all your buying options?
You might think that your only option is to purchase a single-family home, but there are so many more options. Depending on what suits your needs you could purchase a duplex, condo, or even a townhouse. If you think that a single-family house is the only option then you should take the time to explore all the alternatives.

Are you ready to buy a house? Tell us why or why not in the comments below.

We all know that owning a home is part of the American Dream, but for many, it is actually much more advantageous to rent.  If you have decided to rent while you prepare to buy or have decided that renting is what makes you happy; Apartments Now is here to help you through the entire search process. Let us help make your next move a smart move! Call us today (210) 802-1112.

Central Texas Is Still Hot

Real estate has always been centered around location, location, location. Forbes scoured the housing markets to determine the most overvalued housing markets in the country to help Americans, like you, make better-informed decisions.

To determine the top overvalued housing markets in the country (from the 50 largest metro areas) Forbes analyzed five metrics: unemployment, nominal income growth, population growth, change in rental prices and home price growth. It comes to no surprise that the most overhauled markets can be found right here in the Lone Star State and that San Antonio outpaced all the other markets at a higher rate.

So what does that mean for you?  In an overhauled housing market sellers typically benefit, buyers face hotter home prices, and homeowners prepare for increasing property taxes.  As the momentum gains, the rental trends of Americans choosing to rent versus buy will also likely continue to increase. Let’s face it, nobody wants to pay more. The housing and rental trends go hand in hand.

Do you feel that the San Antonio housing market is overvalued? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Our apartment finders at Apartments Now are experts in the San Antonio real estate market. They work daily with buyers, sellers, and renters who want to live in an overhauled housing market like the Alamo City.
